RHETT D. KLOK

Rhett D. Klok is a litigator who helps individuals resolve their disputes and protect their rights. As a U.S. citizen raised in Mexico City, Rhett is not only bilingual, but has a worldview that has served him well when representing the differing needs of his clients. His versatile background along with the flexibility and know-how to successfully resolve conflicts, has served his clients well throughout the years. Rhett takes an “hands on” approach to each case.

Before founding the Klok Law Firm, Rhett worked on complex litigation such as In re Silicone Breast Implant Litigation, the groundbreaking Castano v. American Tobacco Company, the Tobacco Litigation on behalf of the states of Texas and New Mexico, as well as several medical device and drug Multi-District litigations such as Kugel Mesh, Sulzer Hip, Rezulin and was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee In Re: Nuvaring Litigation. He has litigated railroad crossing, medical prescription errors, nursing home, medical device, medical malpractice, pharmaceutical, aviation, asbestos, tobacco, vehicle and tire defect cases as well. Rhett has served as vice chair of the American Association for Justice’s Preemption Law Litigation Group. Also, he is a regular speaker at legal seminars on a variety of topics such as settlement, litigating personal injury cases, and preemption.

Attorney Rhett D. Klok began his legal career in Louisiana handling litigation matters in class actions. After spending many years with one of the largest plaintiff only law firms in the county, Rhett left with a mission to build a practice to deliver large firm quality with a small firm attitude. Klok Law was launched in 2009 and continues to help individuals resolve their conflicts. Rhett believes working together with his clients to identify their goals and narrow their focus, allows them to gain peace of mind and ultimately achieve their objectives.

He is a strong believer in community involvement. Klok Law is the first law firm to offer pro-bono wills and powers of attorney to cancer patients through Clauses for Causes, a non-profit started by his wife, Suzanne Lafleur Klok. Rhett has been a volunteer Guardian ad litem protecting and speaking on behalf of children in South Carolina who would otherwise not have a voice within the court system. During the financial crisis, Rhett negotiated with loan services on behalf of homeowners in financial crisis to help them keep their homes through loan modifications and refinancing at no charge to homeowners with the Homeownership Resource Center, a division of Family Services, Inc., a local non-profit agency. In 2001, Rhett founded the Tulane University Alumni Association’s Charleston Chapter.

SUZANNE LAFLEUR KLOK

Suzanne Lafleur Klok helps individuals resolve conflicts and achieve their goals. By identifying each client’s goals and objectives, Suzanne is able formulate a unique strategic plan for each of her clients. Her background in complex litigation has prepared Suzanne to tackle the most difficult cases and situations for her clients.

Before founding Klok Law with her husband Rhett, Suzanne had over a decade of litigation experience in products liability, personal injury, transportation, tobacco, medical devices, environmental toxic tort and securities and consumer fraud class action litigation. Suzanne’s meticulous pre-trial skills and ability to identify critical facts and supporting evidence has allowed her the flexibility to practice in a variety of complex areas. Early in her career, Suzanne practiced corporate and tax law. She also speaks at legal education seminars on a variety of topics. Suzanne served on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Collaborative Law Institute, a non-profit organization, formed to educate the public on an alternative to aggressive litigation which allows them to resolve disputes without going to court.
